    Clostridium Difficile Negligence Claims

What is it that leads to Clostridium Difficile Negligence Claims in the first place?

Clostridium Difficile (or C-Diff) is one of two fairly common types of infections you acquire in a hospital. The other is MRSA. In essence, the bacteria which causes C-Diff resides harmlessly in around 3% of adults. However, C-Diff becomes dangerous when antibiotics and other medications upset the healthy balance of bacteria in the digestive system. C-Diff, as a result, is able to flourish.

    What is Clostridium Difficile Negligence?

C-Diff can cause diarrhoea, fever, nausea, and loss of appetite. These side-effects are indeed bad enough for an adult who is otherwise healthy. But consider when they affect someone who is already ill or recovering from an operation. In summary, they can have severe consequences leading to further illness and, in a few rare instances, death.

C-Diff spreads through hardy spores which can survive for days on surfaces like toilets, sinks, and tables. Hospitals, nursing homes, and other care facilities, in fact, have a duty to control the risk C-Diff. Indeed, it poses to their patients who are already physically vulnerable.

It requires adequate risk management through correct hygiene and cleaning practices. But without it, you can see widespread outbreaks amongst staff and patients.

Just contracting a Clostridium difficile infection is not grounds for a medical negligence claim. If it is identified and addressed swiftly with antibiotics and other appropriate treatment, then patients can recover with no lasting effects. C-Diff medical negligence happens where the infection is misdiagnosed or mistreated.

    How Can We Help?

The Medical Negligence Experts have experience in successfully raising claims for compensation due to C-Diff infections. We understand the effect such an infection can have on the health of a patient, and how angry and betrayed they can feel when mistakes and unacceptable care leads them to become even iller in a place where they should be getting better.

Clostridium difficile compensation can pay for things like earnings lost due to extensive recovery time, any additional travel or treatment expenses you have incurred, and even the cost of prescriptions and care you need as the result of your C-Diff infection.

We always recommend clients seek legal advice as soon as they suspect their hospital-acquired infection was the result of negligent care. Even if you do not yet know whether you will proceed with claiming compensation, we can look at the circumstances surrounding your illness and let you know whether your claim has a high chance of success, and what your next steps should be. Having this information will allow you to make an informed decision, rather than miss the opportunity to claim because you were unaware that you could.

Time limit to make a claim

Remember that there is a statutory time limit for claiming compensation for medical negligence. Moreover, that includes payments for any hospital-acquired infections. Whether you became ill as the result of your stay in a hospital, a care home, or any other NHS or private medical facility, we can help.

Why wait? Get in touch with The Medical Negligence Experts today and find out how we can help you obtain the fair compensation you deserve.
